Charter flights between Russia and Egyptian resorts may resume this summer, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). The countries in April agreed to fully resume flights, limited from 2018.
According to the Deputy Minister, there are “finishing touches” left for the launch of charters. “The decision (on the resumption of flights .— “B”), as you know, it was accepted, it was announced at the highest level. So now there are just some details left, including those related to coronavirus restrictions, ”said Mr. Bogdanov (quoted by TASS).
According to the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, the decision on the full resumption of air communication with Egypt “must be carried out the sooner the better.” To the clarifying question whether flights will resume in the summer, Mikhail Bogdanov replied: “It would not hurt. I think so ”(quoted by Interfax).
As a reminder, since 2018, Russian airlines have been able to fly only to Cairo. Prior to that, due to the crash of the A321 “Kogalymavia” aircraft in 2015, air traffic between Russia and Egypt was completely absent. Tour operators said they were ready to launch charters to Egypt from more than 20 Russian cities.
