The Samokat delivery service (part of the Mail.ru Group and Sberbank JV) plans to launch in the US in the summer, the company’s founder Vyacheslav Bocharov told Interfax. According to him, the service will operate under a different brand in New York. What its name will be, he did not specify.
As The Bell reported, citing sources, the team to work on the project will also be assembled “on the spot.” The expenses of “Samokat” for launching in the USA have not yet been determined – this amount, according to the interlocutors of the publication, depends on the scale of the launch, which is still being discussed by the company’s shareholders. “The idea will be transferred to the US market, partly the Samokat technology, but not the brand and not the people,” a source close to the company explained.
According to the analytical company App Annie, Samokat entered the top 10 most popular (in terms of the number of downloads in the first quarter) applications for the delivery of food and groceries in Russia. The service was founded in 2018 by former top managers of Magnit and Russian Post Vyacheslav Bocharov and Rodion Shishkov. The company currently operates in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnodar, Samara and Yekaterinburg. Samokat is integrated into the ecosystems of Sberbank and Mail.ru Group, their joint ventures also integrate the Delivery Club, Citymobil, YouDrive, and Sbermarket services.
