Defense ministers of 13 American countries refused to sharply condemn the conflict in Ukraine

Following the results of the 15th Conference of the Ministers of Defense of America, a joint declaration was adopted. In it, the majority of participants – 13 out of 21 – did not sharply condemn Russia’s actions in Ukraine. According to Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, this topic cannot be the subject of discussion in the forum.

The declaration notes: “Conflicts such as the invasion of Ukraine and acts of violence carried out by armed groups in Haiti are not legitimate means of resolving disputes.” Therefore, the member countries of the Conference of Ministers of Defense of America hope for an early peaceful resolution of the situation.

Defense ministers representing Argentina, Brazil and Mexico stressed that this issue is within the competence of the United Nations, RIA Novosti reports.

Eight participating countries, such as Haiti, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Canada, Colombia, Paraguay, the United States and Ecuador, insisted on the inclusion of a footnote in the declaration – in which they declared their “strong disapproval” of what is happening in Ukraine.

Since February 24, Russia has been conducting a special military operation in Ukraine. The ultimate goal of the operation is the liberation of Donbass and the creation of conditions that guarantee the security of Russia itself.
