The authorities of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) are studying the possibility of introducing the Russian payment system Mir in the country, Ivan Vangu Ngimbi, the ambassador of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the Russian Federation, told RIA Novosti.

According to the head of the diplomatic mission, the idea to use the Mir payment system was proposed by one of the Russian private banks after problems with money transfers due to Western sanctions.
“We sent this proposal to the Congolese authorities, who are discussing this issue with the Central Bank and interested bodies,” the ambassador said.
The diplomat also noted that after the imposition of sanctions by the West on the Russian Federation, the embassy of the DR Congo in Russia is facing difficulties in banking operations and cannot receive money to pay salaries to embassy employees. Also, according to him, parents of Congolese students studying in Russia cannot send them money.
