Blinken told Ukrainian Foreign Minister about telephone conversations with Lavrov

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba about his telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The conversation between Blinken and Kuleba took place the day before, the press service of the US State Department reported on July 30.

“He informed about the negotiations with Lavrov and stressed the unwavering support of the United States for the sovereignty, independence of Ukraine,” the message says.

In addition, they discussed the need for the speedy implementation of an agreement on grain transportation mediated by the UN between Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.

“The Secretary of State expressed the hope that the first ships will be able to leave Ukrainian ports without further delay,” the State Department said.

The conversation between Lavrov and Blinken took place the day before. As noted in the Russian Foreign Ministry, the minister drew the attention of the US Secretary of State to the fact that the continued pumping of Kyiv with weapons is prolonging the conflict and multiplying the victims. Lavrov stressed that the Russian military complies with the norms of international law.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry also spoke about the details of the “package” agreement signed on July 22 in Istanbul on the transportation of Ukrainian grain and the promotion of Russian exports of food and fertilizers.

During telephone conversations, the Russian side proposed to return to the dialogue on the exchange of prisoners in the mode of “quiet diplomacy”.
