Bitcoins worth $28 million found in Moscow

The head of the investigative department of the committee for the Tverskoy district of Moscow, Marat Tambiev, was accused of taking a bribe in the amount of 1,032.1 BTC (more than $28 million) from hackers under investigation. It is reported by “Kommersant”.

According to investigators, the suspect received cryptocurrency on April 7, 2022 from members of the Infraud Organization hacker group Mark and Konstantin Bergmanov, as well as Kirill Samokutyaevsky for not seizing their assets.

Bitcoin was discovered during the investigation of the corruption case against Tambiev. The investigator allegedly kept the access code to the electronic wallet with cryptocurrency in a folder called “Pension”.

On June 5, 2023, the court will consider a claim for the confiscation of Tambiev’s corruption proceeds, media writes.

Recall that in 2022, Russian courts issued almost 15% more decisions related to cryptocurrencies than a year earlier – 1758 against 1531.

In February 2023, bitcoin consultant Christopher Emms, who helped North Korea circumvent sanctions with the help of digital assets, was detained in Moscow.
