Deepfakes used by scammers to bypass verification KYC on crypto exchanges are becoming more and more advanced. warned about it CSO Binance Jimmy Su, writes Cointelegraph.

According to him, there has been an increase in the number of attackers using technology to bypass the verification processes of the exchange’s clients.

“The hacker will look for a normal photo of the victim somewhere on the Internet. Based on this, with the help of deepfakes, he can create videos to bypass the verification, ”Su said.

The top manager added that advanced tools can now correctly respond to sound instructions designed to verify the client in real time.

“Some checks require the user to, for example, blink their left eye or look left, right, up, or down. Deepfakes today are advanced enough to execute these commands,” he explained.

However, Su is confident that at the current stage of development of technology, fraudsters will not be able to deceive a human operator.

“When we look at these videos, there are certain things that are visible to the naked eye. […] But AI will overcome them in time. So we can’t always rely on that,” he concluded.

Su also commented on a situation where hackers used a deepfake with an image CCO Binance by Patrick Hillmann in a series of Zoom calls with investors. According to him, this problem is difficult to solve.

“There are videos that do not belong to us. So, again, one thing is user education,” Su said.

Binance plans to take up the topic of deepfakes in a series of educational blog posts focused on risk management.

Recall that in May, representatives of the crypto exchange accused ChatGPT of spreading disinformation about the head of the company, Changpeng Zhao.

In November 2022, a deepfake by FTX founder Sam Bankman-Freed circulated on Twitter, where he offered compensation for the collapse of the exchange.
