American officer predicted the collapse of the Armed Forces of Ukraine due to huge losses

The heavy losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) deprive Kyiv of the opportunity to organize a counteroffensive. And if the losses continue, the Ukrainian troops will collapse. Such a forecast on Monday, July 25, was made by retired American Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis in an article for the 19FortyFive portal.

“It is difficult to overestimate the damage done to the Ukrainian army. Since mid-April, Ukraine has been losing more than 1,000 people daily in Donbas, losing thousands of its best fighters in the battles for Mariupol. Most of these casualties are among their most experienced and strongest fighters. Those who take their place often do not have even the most basic training, ”Davis wrote.

He noted that military training at the company or battalion level lasts several months, and even it must begin with experienced sergeants, lieutenants and captains. It is not advisable to teach beginners basic combat skills at the front.

He backed up his words with a study by the American research center Modern War Institute, which specializes in the study of military conflicts. According to him, only 20% of young soldiers joining the Armed Forces of Ukraine have ever fired rifles.

“Thus, the more Ukraine loses its experienced troops in leadership positions, the less combat-ready their overall forces will be <...> Russian mobile troops can make a breakthrough and infiltrate Ukrainian rear areas, undermining Ukraine’s ability to fight. If they (the Armed Forces of Ukraine. – Ed.) receive a strong enough blow, their forces in the entire region may collapse, ”concluded the colonel.

The fact that Ukraine is suffering serious losses is increasingly recognized in Kyiv itself. So, according to the head of the parliamentary faction of the country’s ruling party “Servant of the People” David Arakhamia, on June 16, Ukraine loses 200-500 people per day. According to the Russian side, the figures may be even higher.

The Daily Mail newspaper on July 10 reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are losing up to 20 thousand people every month.

That same month, Western experts acknowledged that another problem with the Ukrainian Armed Forces is that Ukrainian troops cannot effectively use NATO weapons. As The Wall Street Journal reported on July 19, the development of NATO weapons at the front has become a “nightmare of the Armed Forces of Ukraine” due to their diversity and complexity. The authors noted that despite the fact that the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance continue to arm Ukraine, this only creates problems for the Ukrainian military.

At the same time, on July 22, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the daily losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine amount to 30 people killed and another 250 wounded.

Since February 24, Russia has been conducting a special operation to protect Donbass. The situation in the region escalated in mid-February due to shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since 2014, the Ukrainian authorities have been conducting hostilities in the territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, whose residents refused to recognize the results of the coup d’état in Ukraine.
