Afghan Minister of Industry and Trade: Kabul wants to negotiate with Russia on oil supplies by barter

Afghanistan is interested in reaching an agreement on the supply of Russian oil by barter if Moscow is interested in Afghan goods, Minister of Industry and Trade of the republic Nuriddin Azizi said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“The most important thing for us would be the oil and gas project. We would also like to consider the option of barter trade, provided that the Russian Federation has a need for some Afghan products,” Azizi said.

He added that the country plans to buy about a million barrels of Russian black gold.

A delegation from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Afghanistan arrived in Moscow on Sunday. The Taliban-led mission will begin talks with the Russian side on Monday.

Russian Ambassador to Kabul Dmitry Zhirnov told RIA Novosti that the Afghan side plans to discuss the supply of oil, grain, and sunflower oil. Negotiations are expected to continue until Wednesday. They will be attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation.
