Charter flights from Russia to Egyptian resorts may resume in the coming days, said Aeroflot CEO Mikhail Poluboyarinov. He did not give exact dates. The head of the carrier also noted that it would be “rather difficult” to replace the “Turkish market”. Air traffic with Turkey has been suspended since April 15 due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Russia and Egypt in April agreed to fully resume air traffic. “Egypt, we expect that it will open in the coming days, and, perhaps, it will be possible to compensate a little,” Mr. Poluboyarinov said in an interview with the Russia 24 TV channel (quoted by Interfax).
Since 2018, Russian airlines have only been able to fly to Cairo. Prior to that, due to the crash of the plane A321 “Kogalymavia” in 2015, air traffic between the countries was completely absent. The Russian Foreign Ministry expects the resumption of charters to Egypt in the summer.
