Ukraine has promised not to sever diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation because of the elections in Crimea

Ukraine will not sever diplomatic relations with Russia because of the elections to the State Duma in Crimea and in the uncontrolled territory of Donbass. This was stated by the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Kuleba on Wednesday, September 22.

“Diplomatic relations had to be severed in 2014. Now something mega-catastrophic has to happen to get back to this question. Because severing diplomatic relations is a capital punishment, ”Kuleba said in an interview with Dom TV.

On September 22, it became known that the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada did not recognize the elections to the State Duma held in Russia. The corresponding resolution at the plenary session of the Ukrainian parliament was supported by 322 deputies.

On Monday, September 20, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) opened a criminal case under the article on treason due to the holding of elections to the State Duma in Crimea. The SBU has compiled a list of all those involved in this vote, both from among the official representatives of Russia and among Ukrainian citizens.

On Friday, September 17, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine at a meeting decided to impose sanctions on the organizers of voting in the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in Crimea and Donbass. Kiev believes that Russia allegedly has no right to hold elections in these territories.
