The share of Russians overdue for more than a month on credit cards in April-May increased by almost one percentage point, follows from the data of the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBCH). In March this indicator was at the level of 7.5%, in April – 8.1%, in May – 8.4%. Compared to May 2020, the share of overdue credit card debt increased by 0.2 percentage points.
“We see that during the year the share of delinquency on credit cards remained quite stable, and its fluctuation within this period was within the margin of error. If we talk about the spring of this year, then during this period of time there was a slightly higher appetite for risk on the part of banks, which increased the issuance of loans to a wider range of borrowers with already open credit cards. Hence the growth of delinquencies, ”said Alexey Volkov, Marketing Director of the NBKI, to TASS.
As of June 1, the total portfolio of banks on credit cards amounted to 1.34 trillion rubles, which is 1% lower than on May 1. But compared to June 1, 2020, the figure increased by 6.7%.
According to the United Credit Bureau (OKB), in May 2021, the total cost of a loan in the credit card segment was 24.5%. The last time the full value of credit cards was at this level was in December 2020. In total, 976 thousand credit cards were issued in May 2021, which is almost twice as much as a year earlier.
