Russian citizens in April of this year made more than 8.5 thousand trips to Georgia, which is about 2.2 times more than in the same period of 2020. This was reported by TASS with reference to the data of the National Tourism Administration of Georgia.
From January to April 2021, the number of trips from Russia to Georgia amounted to more than 18 thousand, which is 89.7% less than in the same period last year. Thus, Russia ranked fourth among the countries from where tourists most often come to Georgia. The first place was taken by Turkey, whose citizens have made about 72 thousand trips since the beginning of the year, which is 63% less than in four months of 2020.
The second place was taken by Georgian citizens living abroad. From January to April, they made more than 26 thousand trips home, which is 75.1% less than last year. The third place was taken by the citizens of Armenia, having visited Georgia about 24 thousand times. This figure is 87.5% less than last year. The total number of tourists coming to Georgia in the first quarter decreased by 83.9% (more than 220 thousand trips).
On June 1, Georgia opened its land borders, which have been closed since March 2020. Those who have been vaccinated or tested negative for coronavirus are allowed to enter the country.
