The first power unit of BelNPP was disconnected from the network by automatic generator protection, the reasons for the shutdown are being investigated. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic.
The disconnection occurred today, July 12, at 12:57 (the time coincides with Moscow time). In accordance with the standard algorithm, the power of the reactor plant was reduced. The radiation situation at the NPP and in the observation area did not change. The power unit will be put into operation after elimination of the reasons for the shutdown of the electric generator.
BelNPP consists of two blocks of 1.2 GW each, the station is located in the town of Vorniany on the Neris River, 20 km from Lithuania. Construction has been carried out since 2012 by the state corporation Rosatom, 90% of the construction cost is covered by a Russian loan in the amount of about $ 10 billion, the rest was provided by VEB in the form of an additional loan. The first power unit of the BelNPP is planned to be commissioned in 2021, the second – in the first half of 2022. The BelNPP will be commissioned according to the programs approved by its operator – RUE “Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant”.
