Yandex is negotiating the purchase of the premium supermarket chain Azbuka Vkusa, The Bell reported, citing two sources in the retail market. As one of them explained, this is necessary for the development of the Yandex.Lavka service in the direction of the delivery of ready-made food. Representatives of the retailer and the IT company declined to comment.

The purchase of a supermarket chain will reduce purchase prices for Yandex.Lavka, since they will be combined with the purchases of Azbuka Vkusa, the newspaper’s interlocutors believe. They compare the pending deal to Amazon’s purchase of Whole Foods.

On June 2, Yandex and Azbuka Vkusa signed an agreement on strategic cooperation in express delivery. Note that one of the main shareholders of the retailer – Roman Abramovich – in 2020 became a minority shareholder of Yandex.
