Switzerland checks oil trader Gunvor for corruption

The Swiss Attorney General’s Office on Wednesday announced the start of an investigation against employees of an unnamed oil trader. According to Western media, this is one of the largest oil traders, Gunvor. His employee is suspected of bribery of officials in Ecuador and money laundering.

In a statement, the prosecutor’s office said that the investigation into the “unnamed persons” was launched after a similar investigation in the United States. In April, former Gunvor employee Raymond Kohut pleaded guilty in the United States: he confessed that he paid more than $ 22 million to Ecuadorian officials to get contracts in place of the local state-owned company Petroecuador. Gunvor previously said it is cooperating with a US investigation.

The Swiss prosecutor’s office is now, among other things, checking whether any crimes related to this case were committed in Switzerland.
