Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin named the former Mayor Yuri Luzhkov to Sadovniki Park on Andropov Avenue in the capital. This was announced on Tuesday, September 21, by the press service of the mayor and the city government.
“Park“ Sadovniki ”<…> will bear the name“ Park named after Yu. M. Luzhkov ”. The Moscow government’s decree on this issue was signed by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, ”the press service said.
This decision was made by the authorities after the appeal of the non-profit organization “Yuri Luzhkov’s Foundation”, the initiators of which will be engaged in part of the work on the improvement of the park, TASS notes.
On December 10, 2020, a memorial plaque was installed in Moscow on the house where Luzhkov lived. She appeared at the address: 3rd Tverskaya-Yamskaya, house 48.
In April 2021, an initiative group of State Duma deputies sent a petition to Sobyanin to assign one of the capital’s streets or squares after Luzhkov.
Luzhkov served as mayor of Moscow from 1992 to 2010. He passed away on December 10, 2019 from complications from heart surgery.
