Roskomnadzor ordered Facebook and Twitter to localize databases before July 1

Social networks Facebook, Twitter and others are required to localize the databases of personal data of Russian users by July 1, said Deputy Head of Roskomnadzor Milos Wagner at a meeting of the department’s board.

“Until July 1, social networks Facebook, Twitter and others are obliged to ensure the localization of the databases of Russian users,” says the slide presented by Mr. Wagner. At that time he himself said: “We are waiting for July 1” (quote from TASS).

On May 21, a bill was introduced to the State Duma, obliging foreign IT companies with a daily audience in the Russian Federation of 500 thousand people to open their branches in the country. If companies do not comply with this requirement, they, in particular, may be prohibited from distributing advertising, as well as collecting personal data. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Google AdWords, YouTube, WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram, Steam, World Of Tanks may be subject to this requirement.
