Director of the Institute of the Newest States Alexei Martynov, in an interview with Izvestia, commented on the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with the governors who won the elections. The event took place earlier on Saturday 25 September. The head of state congratulated them on their election, and also called on them to work “with their sleeves rolled up, both with heart and soul.”
Martynov drew attention to the fact that the elected governors are managers whom Putin personally appointed as acting heads of the regions.
“This credit of confidence of the president was confirmed at the vote by the voters. His (Putin’s – Ed.) Personnel decisions turned out to be accurate and confirmed at the elections, “he stressed.
The political scientist also commented on the parting words of the Russian leader to the elected governors.
“On the one hand, this is a common figure of speech, but on the other, I must say, and the president has not spoken about this many times, now there is a general trend towards populism in the world. Unconfirmed, not backed by anything, empty promises for the sake of promises. Unfortunately, this is a global trend in developed democratic countries. Putin has repeatedly spoken out on this issue that he does not accept such an approach and believes that what the candidates promise in the elections should be fulfilled, at least every effort should be made for this: as they say, as much as you can and two more times. In this sense, he confirmed his point of view, which is widely known, ”he concluded.
In 2021, on a single voting day, elections to the State Duma were held in Russia, as well as elections for the heads of nine Russian constituent entities (in two more regions, deputies of legislative assemblies elected the highest administrative persons) and 39 regional parliaments. Direct elections were held in Mordovia, Tuva, Chechnya, Khabarovsk Territory, as well as Belgorod, Penza, Ulyanovsk, Tula and Tver regions. Voting in parliament took place in North Ossetia and Karachay-Cherkessia.
