“Pobeda” refused the largest purchase of Boeing 737 for Russia

Low-cost airline Pobeda refused to purchase 20 new-generation Boeing 737 MAX medium-range aircraft. This was reported by RBC with reference to a source close to the leadership of Pobeda, as well as interlocutors in a large Russian leasing company and one of the customers of the Boeing 737 MAX.

The canceled contracts were one of the largest orders for Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in Russia. They were signed in 2018, after which there were two plane crashes due to a malfunction of the ship’s systems, after which MAX flights in the world were stopped.

“Pobeda refused to lease MAX a year later, after their deliveries were to begin. Such a delay, as a standard, gives the right to withdraw from the contract, “- said a source to RBC. He added that there was no point in holding on to leasing contracts due to the lack of a Russian Boeing 737 MAX type certificate and a “giant offer” MAX at low prices.

“The timing of recertification is determined by the regulator,” a Boeing spokesman said.

As a reminder, the Aeroflot group expects the passenger traffic to reach 47 million people by the end of the year. This is 56% more than in 2020, but still significantly, by 22.5%, below the level of 2019, when the group’s airlines carried over 60 million people. The growth driver will be

“Victory”.
