As the economy goes online, digital currencies will become the future of financial systems, including Russia. This was stated by the head of the Central Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina in an interview with CNBC.
“There is a need for fast and cheap payment systems, and digital currencies of central banks can fill this gap … I think this is the future for our financial system, because it correlates with the development of the digital economy,” said Ms Nabiullina.
Recall that at the end of 2021, a prototype of the digital ruble will be created. The Central Bank plans to become its issuer. Clients will get access to their wallet, where the money will be stored, through the bank’s mobile application. Testing of the digital ruble platform will take place during 2022.
