MTPL insurers saved money in courts // Insurance monitoring

As follows from the statistics of the Russian Union of Auto Insurers (RSA), OSAGO companies at the beginning of 2021 almost halved their court payments. The amount of overhead costs of insurers for litigation under OSAGO (these are fines, penalties, penalties, examination costs) in the first quarter of 2021 amounted to 1.18 billion rubles. (1.9 times less than in the first quarter of 2020). Fines under the consumer protection law also halved (RUB 0.8 billion per quarter versus RUB 1.7 billion a year earlier). The number of court decisions on compulsory motor third party liability insurance in the first quarter of 2021 also decreased by almost half – from 29 thousand to 15 thousand. More than twice – from 1.73 billion to 0.79 billion rubles – the amount of insurance claims paid under court.

Earlier, in the structure of overhead costs of companies, a significant share was occupied by cases of abuse of the right by unscrupulous intermediaries, “who, thanks to the practices of conducting expert examinations of their affiliated persons, significantly overestimated the amount of damage.” “These” cheats “in the courts did not reach motorists, and sometimes even caused tax claims on the income received by a third party,” the RSA said in a statement.

The decrease in losses of insurers in the courts in the market is explained by efforts to combat auto lawyers and the work of the financial manager. This relieved the burden on the courts, although, in general, OSAGO insurers did not pay much less. According to the Bank of Russia, in the first quarter of 2021, insurers collected 50 billion rubles. premiums on compulsory motor third party liability insurance (an increase of 7.6% in comparison with the same indicator a year earlier), and paid 37.2 billion rubles. (minus 0.5%). The average price of the policy was 5.8 thousand rubles. (an increase of 2.9%)., and the average payment – 66.4 thousand rubles. (an increase of 6.7%).

Yesterday, the Central Bank announced that it had updated the unified methodology for determining the cost of repairing vehicles in OSAGO. According to the document, from September 20, the average cost of spare parts, standard hours and materials in price guides for OSAGO will be calculated for each subject (previously for larger territories – economic regions) and updated every three months (previously, once every six months). Previously, insurers pointed out that, with unchanged compulsory motor third party liability insurance rates, the average cost of a car liability repair basket increased by 16% in 2021.
