Ministry of Industry and Trade: the rise in prices for clothing and footwear will not go beyond average values

In 2021, the growth in prices for clothing and footwear will remain within the average annual corridor, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said. The rise in cost is partly due to higher transportation prices and an increase in the cost of raw materials, the department said.

“The increase in the cost of clothing and footwear during the season is an annual process in retail, and, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, this year it will remain within the boundaries of the average annual corridor. At the same time, the increase in prices, which occurs in the first month of the season, in the future is significantly leveled by discounts and sales, ”said the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (quoted by Rossiyskaya Gazeta).

The department drew attention to the fact that the main import of clothing comes from Southeast Asia. “Freight has increased almost fivefold compared to last year, which was due to the rupture of global supply chains during the coronavirus lockdown and some consequences of the incident with the bulk carrier Ever Given,” it said.

As representatives of Baon, Gloria Jeans and Zenden Group (Zenden, Thomas Munz and Mascotte) told RBC earlier, in the new autumn-winter season clothing and footwear may rise in price by at least 10%, prices will rise due to increased costs of transportation and raw materials … At the same time, Melon Fashion Group (brands Zarina, BeFree, Love Republic, Sela) plans to keep prices at the level of 2019.
