There is an active pro-American lobby in the European Union. This was stated in an interview with Izvestia by a member of the European Parliament (EP) Committee on International Affairs, German MP from the Alternative for Germany party Maximilian Kra.
“It should be understood that there are many lobbyists in Brussels – especially from the United States. If you look at the resumes of some MEPs, you will see that many of them are associated with American think tanks based in Europe. Even right-wing and conservative parties send politicians who have worked for American NGOs to the EP, arguing that they have international experience, ”the politician said.
At the same time, he stressed: “In Brussels they are confident that their way of political thinking is universal, they judge the whole world by their own standards, and any country outside the EU raises questions for them.”
On September 16, the European Parliament approved the report of the Lithuanian MP Andrius Kubilius with an appeal to the EU authorities to reconsider relations with Russia. The document states that Brussels must counteract the threat to the security of the EU, fight against “interference” of the Russian Federation in the affairs of the union, conduct a selective dialogue with the Kremlin, and “support a democratic society.”
Commenting on this, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that the EP’s approval of the report calling for a reconsideration of relations with Russia is regrettable. The only thing, according to him, for which a discount can be made is that the document is purely advisory in nature.
