Medvedev: Russia should have norms to influence digital giants

Russia should have a “full arsenal” of influence on foreign digital companies to prevent attempts to interfere, said Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Security Council and chairman of United Russia. In an interview with RT, Mr Medvedev commented on the alleged attempts of foreign interference in the elections to the State Duma in September, he believes. In particular, Roskomnadzor demanded that Google and Apple remove Alexei Navalny’s Smart Voting application; the companies eventually complied with this requirement on the first day of voting, September 17. The chairman of United Russia believes that foreign companies, “in fact, intervened in the political life” of Russia, and called it a complete disgrace. “Yes, at some point they complied with the decision of Roskomnadzor and suspended this activity. But at what point – exactly on the day the voting began. And before that, this whole machine was spinning and, accordingly, propagandizing these same videos of a person ….
