The Walt Disney Company India and Star India on Wednesday appointed K Madhavan as its chairman with immediate effect. Madhavan has been Star and Disney’s Country Manager in India since 2019 and is overseeing its television and studio business.
Disney’s international operations chairwoman Rebecca Campbell said Madhavan will be responsible for the strategy and growth of the group as well as handling the Disney, Star, and Hotstar businesses in the new role.
His new role includes channel distribution, ad sales, and local cuttings production. Campbell said, “I have been working directly with Madhavan for the last several months and I have seen how he has handled our business in India, which is important for our global and regional strategy.” Madhavan said that he is committed to taking the business forward along with increasing the global and regional offerings.
The company is best known for the products of its film studio, the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, which is currently one of Hollywood’s largest and best-known studios. Disney also owns and operates ABC broadcast television networks, cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, and ABC Family, publishing, sales, and theater divisions and owns and licenses 11 theme parks worldwide.
