In Kiev, Lukashenka’s statements about US bases in Ukraine were called insinuations

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is transforming his country into a Russian military base, echoing Moscow’s narratives of American military bases and militant camps in Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko.

“Once again we have witnessed groundless insinuations against Ukraine by Alexander Lukashenko. It is obvious that Alexander Lukashenko has already fully assimilated the templates of Russian propaganda rhetoric regarding threats from Western countries, and Ukraine in particular. He rants about the ghostly American bases and camps of militants in Ukraine, while simultaneously transforming our neighboring Belarus into a continuous military base of Russia, ”Nikolenko quotes the UNIAN agency as saying.

In his opinion, the main threat to Ukraine and Belarus today comes from the Russian Federation.

“To preserve the sovereignty and independence of Belarus, and not to turn into an appendage of Russia – this is what is really worth thinking about in Minsk. Ukraine has never interfered and will not interfere in the affairs of neighboring Belarus. Ukraine will also never pose any threat to the security of the Belarusian people, ”said an official representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

He also noted that Ukraine “will continue to defend its freedom, independence and free democratic choice of the Ukrainian people in favor of European and Euro-Atlantic integration by all means and means.”

“We do this not against someone, but solely because we see the future of Ukraine in a united family of free European peoples, where the value of life, human dignity and democratic choice are unshakable. And the same future meets the interests of Belarus, ”Oleg Nikolenko shared his opinion.

Earlier, President Alexander Lukashenko, at a meeting with the security forces, stated that Belarus and the Russian Federation were concerned about the situation on the border with Ukraine.

“Special attention to the Ukrainian section – what are we going to do there. You see, they are dragging NATO troops there, to Ukraine. Under the guise of training centers, they actually create bases. The United States is establishing bases in Ukraine. It is clear that we need to react to this, ”his press service quotes the words of the Belarusian president.

In turn, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stressed that the joint response of Moscow and Minsk to the deployment of NATO troops in Ukraine should ensure the security of both Russia and Belarus.

“The topic of the potential expansion of NATO’s military infrastructure on the territory of Ukraine was repeatedly mentioned by President Putin, and President Putin said that this is beyond the very” red lines “that he has repeatedly spoken about,” Peskov said.
