The British market will face a food crisis if local authorities do not urgently provide support to farmers. This warning was issued by the National Farmers Union of Great Britain.

Global volatility poses a threat to food and energy security. The future of British food supplies is in jeopardy, head of the organization Minette Butters told the BBC.

The disruption to the chicken egg trade could be just the beginning, she said, with fruit and vegetables to follow. In addition, the production of milk may soon become unprofitable, the union also warned.

Butters determines the situation by a complex of factors: the situation around Ukraine, the consequences of the pandemic, the effect of the United Kingdom’s exit from the EU and the labor shortage.
