Bezos steps down as Amazon CEO on July 5

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos plans to resign as Amazon CEO on July 5. This day will mark the 27th anniversary of the foundation of the corporation.

“We chose this date because it is dear to me – this is the day Amazon was founded in 1994, exactly 27 years ago,” Mr. Bezos said in a statement (quoted from CNBC).

Amazon announced plans to leave the CEO in February. Mr. Bezos will take over as executive chairman of the board of directors. He will be replaced by Andy Jesse, who has been at Amazon since 1997 and heads Amazon Web Services.

Online retailer Amazon generated $ 26.9 billion in net income in the 12 months ended March 31. That’s more than Amazon’s profit for the previous three full years, from 2017 to 2019, at $ 24.7 billion.
